And Randy used to stay up at his place in Birmingham and all that, and they were mates. He added: "When John was in the band, we were touring with Ozzy, and John was big friends with Randy Rhoads. It became impossible for him to play the way he used to. I think you probably know this, but maybe you don't, but he got ill and had a stroke, and that's why he had to leave. All we did was play guitar together - it drove my wife spare. Every time we had a few days off, he came and stopped with me. When we finished the shows, we'd get back to the hotel and we'd get the guitars out.
"We became really good friends, from the minute we met each other," Thomas said. Thomas formed a close friendship with Randy Rhoads when BUDGIE toured with BLIZZARD OF OZZ in 1980. Thomas, who grew up in Birmingham, joined BUDGIE in 1979 and recorded three albums with the band in the early 1980s - "Power Supply", "Nightflight" and "Deliver Us From Evil".
